Cynthia Gu

Piano Instructor

Cynthia Gu started her piano studies at the age of 5. She then moved from San Francisco Bay Area to Shanghai, China, and then to Allen, TX in 2014, where she began lessons with Dr. Catharine Lysinger as a student of the the Piano Preparatory Department of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She won various awards at Dallas Symphonic Festival Senior Sonata and Senior Concerto Divisions, TMTA 11th/12th Concerto, and McKinney Young Artist Competition, and she is a current national finalist in the 2018 MTNA Young Artist Competition. She has had masterclasses with Abbey Simon, Alexander Kobrin, Marina Lamozov, Jim Giles, and Boris Slutsky.

Now a sophomore at SMU pursuing her B.M. in Piano Performance degree, Cynthia continues her studies with Dr. Catharine Lysinger. She hopes to go to grad school and teach up to the collegiate level.
